Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Technologies or ADAS (e.g., lane departure warning, collision avoidance system, license plate recognition, etc.) now equip most of modern vehicles, significantly improving active safety.
But how do these technologies relate to the windshield?
Many ADAS systems use a camera to capture information, which is placed on a special mount of the windshield, at the height of the mirror. When replacing the windshield, the camera needs to be removed and reinstalled on the new windshield. In most of these cases - also according to the official instructions of the car manufacturers - the camera needs resetting (recalibration) after replacing the windshield, to ensure its correct operation of the ADAS systems they support.
An improperly adjusted camera can have significant consequences for the safety of passengers as it will either not work at all, or even worse, work incorrectly. For this reason, the camera recalibration is required by the vehicle manufacturer, to ensure the correct operation of the ADAS systems.
Carglass® Service “ADAS Camera Configuration”
Carglass®, as a world leader in the field of vehicle glass repair and replacement, is constantly developing its expertise and enriching its services to ensure the proper functioning of these systems after every windshield replacement. Thus, since 2014, the company has equipped the corporate network with the necessary tools and technology for the correct diagnosis and recalibration of the cameras that support ADAS systems.
ADAS configuration is done in two ways:
ADAS Dynamic Configuration
Dynamic configuration of the ADAS camera requires driving the vehicle at a specified speed on well-marked roads using a special hand tool. The process usually takes up to an hour or more, depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
Static ADAS Configuration
For static recalibration, the use of a special calibration table is required, which is placed on a specially designed base in front of the vehicle. With this method, ADAS configuration takes place entirely inside the branch, in a specially configured area. This method also takes up to an hour or more depending on the make and model of the vehicle.
ADAS Camera Configuration
The ADAS camera recalibration service is provided throughout the Carglass® corporate network, using portable diagnostic machines as well as special calibration tables. After the service, we offer a certificate for the correct camera recalibration.
